On Saturday, June 22, 2024, philanthropist Ibidapo Ibikunle made a significant contribution to the Osogbo Township Stadium in Osogbo, Osun State, by donating ultra-modern football substitute benches. The donation took place during the final day of the 4th Ibidapo Ibikunle Football Championship, one of the largest grassroots football tournaments in Osun State, which he sponsors out of his love for humanity and his desire to help discover hidden talents.
In a conversation with Futball Naija Correspondence, Ibidapo Ibikunle expressed his joy in contributing to the development of the Osogbo Township Stadium for the benefit of young and aspiring footballers. “I am very proud to be part of this journey and very grateful to every single person that has been part of this journey so far,” he said.
The donations were graciously received by the management of the Osun State Sports Council and members of the Osun State Football Association. Key figures present to receive the benches included the General Manager of the Osun State Sports Council, Mr. Rotimi Dumoye; Director of Coaching and Training at the Osun State Sports Council, Mr. Ademola Daini; Chairman of the Osun State Football Association, Mr. Sola Fanawopo; Super Eagles Goalkeeper Trainer, Mr. Tunji Baruwa MON; SSA to the Governor on Football Matters Mr. Kehinde Johnson; Secretary of the Osun State FA, Mr. Abayomi Amoo; Stadium Manager, Mr. Sola; and representatives of the Olorunda Football Coaches Council, among other dignitaries.
While receiving the benches, the General Manager of the Osun State Sports Council, Mr. Rotimi Dumoye, thanked Mr. Ibikunle for his kind gesture and his continued support of sports in the state. The benches were officially unveiled by the Chairman of the Osun State Football Association, Mr. Sola Fanawopo, who in his speech said, “We appreciate Mr. Dapo for his support and investments in Osun Football. We can’t keep waiting for the government endlessly; people with wherewithal are always welcome to play their part as we focus on developing talents in the state. One of the components missing in the arena is here, we are glad. May the Lord replenish your pocket,” Mr. Fanawopo prayed.
This donation marks a significant step towards enhancing the facilities at the Osogbo Township Stadium, providing better support for young footballers, and promoting the development of grassroots football in Osun State.
