Osun United Football Club striker, Adegoke Qamar Adewale, popularly known as Qamar Qamar, has expressed optimism about his team’s performance in the upcoming season, thanks to the ongoing Optima Energy Gold Cup Preseason Tournament. According to Qamar, the tournament is a crucial opportunity for the team to build a formidable squad as they aim for promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

Qamar shared his thoughts after the match day 2 fixture between FC Ebedei and Osun United, which ended in a 1-1 draw in the first match of Group B. Reflecting on the game, he emphasized the importance of the tournament in preparing the team for the challenges ahead. “This preseason tourney will help the club a lot ahead of the new season, and I believe we can gain promotion to the NPFL,” he stated confidently.

In a match that saw Miracle Osagene put FC Ebedei ahead with a cool finish, Osun United quickly responded, with Joseph Allen restoring parity just five minutes later. Qamar, who had a challenging game against the FC Ebedei central defenders, rated his performance a 7 out of 10. “It could have been a 10/10 if I had scored the scoring opportunity I missed,” he admitted.

The striker acknowledged the tough opposition from the FC Ebedei defenders, who were particularly aggressive in their marking. “The two center defenders were very hard on me because they know me very well and know what I can do. I played against both of them last season while I was with Igbajo United during the Nationwide League One (NLO) promotion playoff game. I frustrated them then, so they were very prepared for me today,” Qamar explained.

Despite the intense physicality, Qamar welcomed the challenge. “I like the fight. It was a very good challenge for me, and I liked it too well,” he said, noting that the rough play did not significantly affect his style of play.

Speaking about his experience in his first competitive game for Osun United, Qamar expressed his determination to contribute positively to the team. “I really wanted to help the team. It’s a new challenge for me—playing with new players and a new coach. I’m just adapting to the style of play, and I believe I will deliver for the team in the next game against Shooting Stars.”

Looking ahead, Qamar shared his aspirations of reaching the pinnacle of his career. “I see myself at the very top in the next few years, most especially putting on the national team jersey,” he said, expressing gratitude to the coaching crew, particularly Seye Ajayi, for believing in him.

Qamar concluded by reaffirming his belief in the importance of the Optima Energy Gold Cup Preseason Tournament. “This Gold Cup preseason will help the team a lot to fish out the best legs to represent the club next season, and I believe we are going to promote to the NPFL.”

Osun United will face Shooting Stars on Sunday in another Group B game of the Optima Energy Gold Cup Preseason Tournament, a match that promises to be another step in their journey toward NPFL promotion.
