On Saturday, Osun United and Osun Babes Handball Clubs proudly unveiled their new jerseys for the 2024 season of the National Division One Handball League. The much-anticipated league is set to take place from July 14th to 20th in Benin City, Edo State.
The jersey launch event was attended by the complete squad, team coaches and officials, and the chairman of the Osun State Handball Association, Mr. Abu Adamu Lasisi. A former professional handball player and the immediate past Director of Sports at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Mr. Abu expressed his appreciation for the support from the government.
During the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Abu commended the government, under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke, for investing in the future of the players by providing all necessary resources to participate in the National Division One Handball League. He stated:
“I’ve been part of the running of Handball in Osun since 2006 and I can tell you for free that this is the first time that Osun is daring into playing a league. Even the underage tournaments we attend in the past is funded by individuals but this time around the gesture by the Government is commendable and I want to see this continue in other sports.”
For Osun United Handball Club, the new jerseys feature colors that resonate with the teams’ logos. The home jersey is predominantly yellow with a touch of brown, while the away jersey is blue and white, symbolizing the team’s spirit of calmness and perfection. The goalkeepers will be easily identifiable in their vibrant jerseys of purple, red, and orange. While Osun Babes will be wearing all black jersey and the goalkeeper jersey color red.
Both Osun United and Osun Babes are set to represent the state in the male and female categories of the National Division One League. Their campaign kicks off on the opening day of the league, Monday, July 15th, 2024.
In addition to unveiling the jerseys, the Omoluabi Clubs have announced new signings earlier this week, adding depth and excitement to the teams as they prepare for the league.
The unveiling of the new jerseys and the government’s support have set a positive tone for the upcoming season, with hopes high for a successful campaign in Benin City.
