Osun United Handball Club is ramping up its preparations ahead of the 2025 Ardova Premier Handball League season, scheduled to begin on July 7, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State.
The club, recently promoted alongside COAS Shooters from the National Division One League, is set to make its debut in Nigeria’s highest-tier handball competition, which is proudly sponsored by Ardova Plc . The 8th edition of the league will feature 22 teams (12 male and 10 female teams) competing in a round-robin format across two phases, under the regulations of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the Confederation of Africa Handball (CAHB).
Head Coach Joshua Aogo expressed satisfaction with the team’s commitment during their build-up, stating that preparations are becoming more intense with each training session.
“Saturday’s training was very intense. Monday’s session will be even more demanding as more players arrive in camp. We’ll be heading into a one-week closed training camp to fine-tune strategies and fitness,” Aogo said.
He further emphasized the importance of balancing preparation with recovery.
“We’re just returning from the National Sports Festival where the boys featured in several games over the last two months. While we aim to be fully ready for the league, I don’t want to overload them. We are focused on building our strength internally, rather than discussing others’ weaknesses.”
In a bid to maintain transparency and fan engagement, Coach Aogo confirmed that there will be a mixed zone media interaction with players following Monday’s training session.
Osun United Handball Club is expected to join all participating teams in Benin City on July 7th for the mandatory technical meeting, where league rules and standards will be reiterated in accordance with IHF and CAHB guidelines.
As anticipation builds, Osun United is determined to make a strong impression in their debut season at the top, representing Osun State with pride and discipline.
