In a bid to boost the morale of the Osun State athletes and officials, Hon. Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye, the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, addressed the state’s contingent for the upcoming National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State. The event took place at the Osogbo Township Stadium before the contingent’s departure.
Hon. Awoyeye, who represents Ife Central in the Osun State House of Assembly, expressed his excitement to be present on behalf of the state’s leadership, including Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke and the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi. He delivered a heartfelt farewell message from Governor Adeleke to the young athletes.
“It is my delight to be here this morning to represent the number one citizen of the state, Asiwaju Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke,” Awoyeye began. “Mr. Governor has sent me here to give you a goodwill message as you leave for Asaba. He is a lover of sports and is committed to developing the sports industry in our dear state.”
Hon. Awoyeye acknowledged that while the conditions may not be ideal, the government is doing everything possible to support the athletes. He also announced that Governor Adeleke has approved the renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, with work set to commence soon.
“The renovation of the stadium has been approved, and contractors will move to the site very soon,” he stated. “Your welfare is the Governor’s top priority, and the funds for this trip have been approved. You will be well taken care of, and your equipment, including tracksuits, school bags, and sneakers, has been provided.”
The Chairman urged the athletes to be good ambassadors of Osun State, emphasizing that their well-being is vital for their performance. He also announced that awards will be given to athletes who bring home medals, particularly gold.
“If you bring us gold, I want to assure you that there is something special for you. I pray that God will keep you, guide you, and bring you back safely,” Awoyeye added. He also advised the coaches to take special care of the young athletes, emphasizing the importance of their safety and well-being.
Hon. Awoyeye concluded his address by reassuring the parents in attendance that their children would be well cared for during the Games. “Mr. Governor has made arrangements, and by the time these kids return, you will see improvements in them. Thank you, and I wish you journey mercies,” he said.
