The Borno State Commissioner for the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Comrade Saina Buba, has shown his unwavering support for El-Kanemi Warriors FC after the team was attacked by armed robbers during their journey from Lagos to Maiduguri. In a show of solidarity, Comrade Buba donated 2 million naira to help the team recover from the theft of their personal belongings and to assist with their medical needs.
The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday on the Jos-Bauchi road, when the El-Kanemi Warriors team, returning to Maiduguri after a match in Lagos, was ambushed by armed robbers around 8 AM. Several players and officials were injured during the attack, and their personal items were stolen. The robbers targeted the team’s vehicle, causing significant distress and damage.
Comrade Buba, upon hearing about the attack, promptly welcomed the team at the Col. Abdulmumin Aminu Camp in Maiduguri. He ensured that the injured players received immediate medical care by personally escorting them to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. He also took the opportunity to express his dedication to the well-being of the players and the recovery of the club, which had been severely affected by the unfortunate incident.

In addition to his emotional support, Comrade Buba announced the 2 million naira donation to help the team replace stolen items and cover any other expenses arising from the incident. The generous contribution will provide much-needed relief for the players and officials as they continue their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) journey.
The robbery has raised concerns within the community, with fans and stakeholders calling for improved security measures to ensure the safety of sports teams traveling on Nigeria’s highways. There have also been calls for the Borno State Government to provide El-Kanemi Warriors FC with a new vehicle or facilitate safer travel arrangements to avoid similar incidents in the future.
