Ikorodu City FC delivered a stunning performance in their Matchday 16 clash against Akwa United, securing a dominant 4-1 victory at their home ground in Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday. The result marks another impressive step in the Oga Boys’ turnaround, as they continue their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The match got off to a flying start with Ikorodu City taking the lead just three minutes into the game. Tosin Oyedokun, who has been in top form this season, opened the scoring with a powerful finish, assisted by Salau Yusuf. However, Akwa United responded in the 35th minute, leveling the score at 1-1 and briefly halting Ikorodu City’s momentum. Despite the setback, the hosts regained their composure and regained the lead right before halftime. Emmanuel Solomon made a brilliant run to latch onto a perfectly weighted pass from Tosin Oyedokun, scoring in the 45+3 minute to make it 2-1.
The second half saw the Oga Boys come out with renewed energy, and just one minute after the restart, Olatunji Abdulmalik scored his first-ever NPFL goal, extending the lead to 3-1. Abdulmalik’s goal was a statement moment for the young forward, who had been hungry for a breakthrough in the top flight.

With Akwa United trailing by two goals, Ikorodu City continued to dominate possession, launching wave after wave of attacks. Ayomide Cole, who had come on as a substitute, sealed the victory in the 71st minute. Cole made an immediate impact, finishing off a superb pass from Abdulmalik to put the game beyond the visitors’ reach.
Ikorodu City’s attack was simply unstoppable, and the 4-1 victory was a fitting reflection of their dominance. The win also marked their sixth consecutive unbeaten game, as they continue to rise in the NPFL standings. The Oga Boys are now sitting in 3rd place, just two points behind leaders Remo Stars, with 22 goals scored this season—the most in the league.
With 18 goals scored at home, Ikorodu City has firmly established themselves as one of the most potent attacking forces in the NPFL, scoring at least five more home goals than any other side.
