Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has expressed profound joy following Kwara United’s historic victory in the 2025 President Federation Cup, declaring that the feat is a result of sustained investment in youth development and not a one-off occurrence.
The Harmony Boys defeated Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties after a goalless regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, to clinch their first-ever Federation Cup title. The victory also earned them a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, marking a return to continental football for the Ilorin-based club.
In a statement released via his verified social media platforms, Governor Abdulrazaq stated:
“The win, one of the recent achievements recorded by the State in various fields, goes to show that our feats in different aspects are not a flash in the pan, but are deserving fruits of hard work and strategic investments in youth development, sports, education, and other key sectors of the economy.”
Governor Abdulrazaq, who was present at the stadium alongside Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other top dignitaries from Kwara State, including Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar (3SU), House Committee on Sports Chairperson Hon. Rukayat Shittu, and Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, celebrated with the players after the final whistle.
“I’m overwhelmed with joy as I joined the Harmony Boys of Kwara United this evening in Lagos to bring home the 2025 President Federation Cup — the first time any team from our state has ever won the prestigious trophy since 1967 when Kwara was created,” the governor noted.
He further praised the players, coaches, club management, sports commission, and supporters for their unity, commitment, and fighting spirit. He also linked the success of Kwara United with other recent statewide achievements, including the state’s victory in the national President School Debate Competition and consistent dominance in previous editions.
“Our victory comes on the heels of yet another win as our contingent to the Senior President Debate Competition emerged national champions for the first time ever. This victory is not a coincidence,” he added.
