Osun State’s male and female Under-15 football teams have both secured their places in the 2024 National Youth Games following impressive performances in the ongoing Southwest Zonal Elimination Playoffs. The event, held at the Osogbo Township Stadium, has seen intense competition, with young athletes vying for the chance to represent their states at the national level.
Male Team’s Path to Victory
Osun State’s male football team delivered a standout performance in their playoff matches, ultimately qualifying for the National Youth Games. The team clinched a crucial 2-0 victory against Ogun State, securing their spot in the final match of the zonal elimination on Saturday, August 31st.
In their first match, Osun State defeated Ogun State 2-0, demonstrating their dominance on the field. The return match against Ogun ended in a goalless draw, but the aggregate score of 2-0 was enough to propel them into the final.
Female Team’s Triumph
Osun State’s female football team also made their mark in the zonal elimination playoffs, securing their qualification for the National Youth Games. The team defeated Ogun State 2-1 in their first match and following it up with a commanding 2-0 victory in the return fixture.
With these victories, the Osun female team has booked their place in the final match of the zonal elimination, where they will face either Lagos or Oyo on Saturday, August 31st.
