Qamar Adegoke was the hero once again for Nasarawa United, scoring the only goal of the match in the 12th minute to give the Solid Miners a crucial 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars in a tense 2024/25 Nigeria Premier League (NPFL) Match-day 16 derby on Saturday at the Lafia City Stadium.
The victory propelled Nasarawa United out of the relegation zone, moving them up to 14th in the league standings and leapfrogging their fierce neighbours, Lobi Stars. Adegoke’s decisive strike proved to be the difference in a match filled with intense rivalry, as both teams battled for survival and pride.
United dominated possession for much of the match and created several promising chances, with Adegoke’s early goal giving them the upper hand. However, Lobi Stars came close to equalizing before the break when John Mark struck the woodwork, leaving the visitors frustrated. Despite a late surge from Lobi Stars, Nasarawa United’s solid defence held firm, ensuring that the home side secured all three points.

Speaking after the match, Adegoke, who has now scored two goals in just four games for Nasarawa United, expressed his delight at the result. “I feel great. This is my second goal in four matches, both at home, so I feel very good. I’m looking forward to scoring more goals,” he said.
Adegoke also reflected on his belated start to the season with Nasarawa United, admitting that it had affected his goal-scoring rhythm. “Yes, definitely. It has slowed down my scoring pace because I know my capabilities. When I grew up in Oshogbo, they called me Obagoal—that’s what I know how to do: score,” he explained.
The striker also shared insights from his European experience, having previously played for Spanish clubs Zamora and Villafranca before returning to Nigeria.
When asked about his goal targets for the season, Adegoke expressed unwavering confidence. “It’s never too late. I believe I can be the top scorer of this competition. I believe in myself,” he declared.
Looking ahead, Adegoke emphasized his commitment to helping Nasarawa United climb up the standings. “Before today’s match, we were 20th on the table. After this win, maybe we’re 15th or so. I believe we can be in the top 10 or even fight for a continental spot. It’s never too late. Just look at Ikorodu City—they were at the bottom, and now they’re third or fourth. I believe we can still make it,” he added.
The victory was Nasarawa United’s second consecutive home win and a major boost to their survival hopes in the league, with Adegoke’s performance serving as a bright spark for the Solid Miners as they look to continue their push up the table.
