FC Basira kicked off their debut season in the National League (NNL) with a narrow 1-0 victory over Yobe Desert Stars at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The match, which was eagerly anticipated by fans, saw both teams create multiple chances, but it was a 28th-minute header from Chigozie Ani that sealed the three points for the Lafia-based side.
Basira FC, playing in their first-ever NNL campaign, showed composure and resilience against their seasoned opponents from Yobe State. Ani’s well-timed header from a cross inside the box proved to be the difference in a competitive first half, with Yobe Desert Stars unable to find an equalizer despite their best efforts.
The victory was a special moment for the newly-promoted team, and Basira FC’s Technical Adviser, Aminu Musa, expressed his gratitude for the team’s performance. “I want to thank Almighty God for granting us this victory. I also appreciate the players for their hard work and determination,” Musa said after the match. “Despite being in our first season in the NNL, our goal is clear: to earn promotion to the NPFL. We are taking each game as it comes, but, Insha Allah, we will achieve our target.”
Musa also extended his appreciation to the team’s officials for their support and to the people of Nasarawa State for their encouragement. “The people of Nasarawa State have been wonderful, and their belief in me and the team is truly inspiring,” he added.
Edward Dimas, the team manager, also reflected on the significance of the win. “To win 1-0 is never easy, especially for a team playing in the NNL for the first time,” Dimas said. “We’re proud of the result and will continue to do the right things moving forward. We are grateful to the founder of Basira FC, Alhaji Salisu Usman Galadima, for providing this platform for the youth of Nasarawa State to showcase their talent. We are determined to make him and the people of Nasarawa proud.”
Looking ahead, Basira FC will now travel to Abuja for their next match, facing Sporting Supreme FC on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Bwari Township Stadium. The match is set to kick off at 3:00 PM.
With their impressive start to the season, FC Basira will be eager to build on this momentum as they continue their journey in the NNL.
