Ademola Lookman continued his impressive form for Atalanta, scoring his 10th league goal of the season against Napoli in a thrilling Serie A encounter on Saturday. Despite Lookman’s effort, Napoli secured a 3-2 victory, reinforcing their lead at the top of the table.

The match at Gewiss Stadium saw Mateo Retegui put Atalanta ahead in the 16th minute with a powerful left-footed strike. Napoli quickly responded, with Matteo Politano equalizing in the 27th minute after a deflected cross. Scott McTominay then gave Napoli the lead just before halftime, finishing from close range off an Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa pullback.
Lookman, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, showcased his skill in the 55th minute, nutmegging Giovanni Di Lorenzo and scoring with a low shot under intense pressure from four Napoli defenders. This goal marked Lookman’s third against Napoli this season and his first in 2025, bringing his tally to double digits for the campaign.

However, Napoli’s Romelu Lukaku secured the win with a late header in the 78th minute, following a sublime cross from Anguissa. The victory keeps Napoli firmly at the top of the Serie A standings with 50 points, six points clear of Inter Milan, who have two games in hand. Atalanta remains in third place with 43 points.

The match also marked a milestone for Lookman, who recently celebrated his 100th appearance for Atalanta, contributing over 68 goals and assists since joining the club. His current season stats boast 15 goals and six assists in 29 matches, underscoring his critical role in Atalanta’s attack.
Despite the loss, Atalanta continues to be a formidable force in Serie A, with Lookman’s contributions playing a significant part in their success this season.
