Spanish authorities have confirmed the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Felipe in a fatal car crash that occurred in the early hours of this morning.
In an official statement released by the Guardia Civil, the accident took place at approximately 12:30am local time on the A-52 motorway, specifically at kilometre 65, near the municipality of Cernadilla in the Zamora province.
According to the police report, the brothers were travelling in a Lamborghini when the vehicle suffered a tyre blowout while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre at high speed. This caused the vehicle to lose control, veer off the road into a ditch, and subsequently burst into flames on impact.

“The information we have is that the car, a Lamborghini, left the road due to a tyre blow out while overtaking. It then set on fire. The accident happened in the municipality of Cernadilla in Zamora at around 00:30 local time. Two people died.”
Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the vehicle engulfed in flames. Tragically, both Diogo Jota and his brother were pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered fatal injuries in the fire. Early forensic identification has confirmed the identities of both victims, although further forensic analysis is ongoing.
Spanish police have not ruled out further investigation but stated that “everything indicates a tyre burst while overtaking.”
Fans around the world, teammates, and the entire football community have been left in shock and mourning following the devastating news. Liverpool FC is yet to issue an official statement.
