Igbajo United FC booked their place in the final of the Osun President Federation Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Akoment FC at the Ejigbo Township Stadium on Wednesday.
The match was a tightly contested encounter, with both sides creating scoring opportunities in the first half. However, despite their attacking efforts, neither team managed to find the back of the net, leaving the scoreline goalless at halftime.
The second half saw Igbajo United FC ramp up the intensity as they pushed for a breakthrough. Their attacking players kept testing the Akoment FC defense, which remained resolute, with the center-backs making crucial interventions.
Igbajo United thought they had taken the lead in the 70th minute when star midfielder Rilwan Sadiq found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. However, just three minutes later, their persistence paid off. Mutiu Adebayo pounced on a mistake from the Akoment FC goalkeeper, calmly slotting the ball into the net to give Igbajo United a well-deserved lead.
Four minutes later, in the 77th minute, young midfielder Ijo played an incisive pass to left-back Yahaya Dauda, who finished with a precise left-footed strike to double the advantage.
Akoment FC fought back and pulled a goal back through Kareem Tunde in the 87th minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Igbajo United held on for the win.
After the match, Igbajo United FC head coach Isa Eroje praised his team’s effort and tactical adjustments.
“I am grateful to God that our strategy worked out. Akoment FC gave us a good fight, and I respect their character,” Eroje said. “We missed some chances, but we adjusted by making changes in midfield to play from the flanks, and it paid off.”
With this victory, Igbajo United FC will now face Osun United FC in the final, scheduled for February 22 at the Lanre Leke Sports Complex, Ile Ogbo, Osun State.
