AAYK FC returned to winning form with a 1-0 victory over HMK FC on matchday 2 of the New Year Mega Lottery Nationwide League One (NLO) Group A, following a disappointing 2-0 loss to Victory Police FC in their opening game.
The match, played at the Lanre Leke Sports Complex, Ileogbo, started with both teams showing great energy but little breakthrough in front of goal. The first half saw several close chances, with AAYK pressing hard while HMK’s defense, marshaled by an impressive display from goalkeeper Daniel, stood firm between the sticks to keep the scoreline goalless at halftime.
AAYK continued to apply pressure after the break. In the 49th minute, Oke nearly scored with a bicycle kick, only for HMK’s Daniel to pull off another brilliant save. Minutes later, AAYK workaholic midfielder, Dunsin tested the Daniel again with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, the young goalkeeping sensation remained unbeatable.
The breakthrough finally came in the 88th minute when Femi stepped up to smash home a wonderful free kick, sending the AAYK faithfuls into celebration. His goal turned out to be the match-winner, as AAYK FC held on to secure all three points.
Femi’s lone goal ensured AAYK FC moved past their opening day disappointment, reigniting their campaign in the New Year Mega Lottery NLO25 season.
