Following the final whistle, Governor Abiodun made a surprise visit to the Falcons’ dressing room to personally congratulate the players and coaching staff. “I don’t have a doubt that you are well prepared for the Nations Cup in Morocco,” the Governor told the team. “By God’s grace, I’m going to be there watching you and cheering you.”

The celebratory atmosphere in Abeokuta reflects the growing anticipation for WAFCON 2024, scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26 in Morocco. Nigeria, the tournament’s most successful nation, will be chasing a record-extending 10th title. The Super Falcons have previously lifted the trophy in 1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019.

With less than a month to the continental showpiece, Tuesday’s performance signals strong intent from the Falcons as they prepare to conquer Africa once again.
