On November 8, 2023, the Osun United football club supporters club paid a welcome visit to the new chairman of the club, Mr. Akin Maxwell, at his new office at the Osogbo township stadium. Also present at the meeting was the club’s community relations manager, Alhaji Abimbola Rafiu (Risky).
Speaking on behalf of the supporters, the vice chairman of the Osun United fc supporters club, Mr. Rasheed Azeez Afolabi, welcomed the chairman to his new position and wished him well as he takes on the new post. After praying for his successful tenure, Mr. Afolabi requested the chairman’s total support for the group.
One of the things he asked for was an office for the supporters club, as well as support with equipment and other necessities to enable them to carry out their functions effectively. Lastly, he asked that the chairman ensure transparency and accountability during his tenure.
Reacting to the visit, Mr. Akin Maxwell expressed his honor at being visited by the supporters. He also apologized for not being able to visit them first due to his tight engagements since resuming office.
He assured the supporters of his full support and told them that the club is theirs and that he is ready to work with them to achieve their goal of gaining promotion to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL). He also said that his door is always open to the supporters, adding that Osun United football club does not belong to him or the government, but to the supporters who leave their homes, work, family, and valuable time to support the team.

Speaking on the requests made by the supporters, Mr. Akin Maxwell promised to do his best in that regard. He said that he could not promise to attend to all of the requests, but that he would see to it that a large portion of them are met.
In addition, the secretary of the supporters club, Mr. Taiwo, asked the chairman to fix a date before the Nigerian National League (NNL) season commences so that the supporters club can go to the new camp of the players at Iragbiji local government area to pray for them and the officials of the team.
The chairman responded that he would convey this request to management, as he could not make this decision alone. He said that praying for the team before the league starts is a good idea, but that he would need to consult with the other management members to fix an appropriate time for prayers.
The visit of the Osun United supporters club to the new chairman is a positive sign for the club’s future. It shows that the supporters are united and behind the new chairman, and that they are committed to working with him to achieve the club’s goals.
