Olukismet FC, a Nationwide League One (NLO) team that narrowly missed promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season, has wrapped up the year on a high note by winning the prestigious Prince Olumide Adegboye Unity Cup 2024. The team has also announced a festive break to allow players and management staff to celebrate the holidays.
Under the guidance of Coach Atobaje Oladeji Gabriel, Olukismet FC delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, scoring a staggering 38 goals while conceding just one. Their journey to glory featured dominant victories:
Group Stage:
Vs Greencrest FC: 10-0
Vs NYSC Team: 10-0
Vs Henrich FC: 2-0
Quarterfinal: Vs Oke Osun: 6-0
Semifinal: Vs Rajjy FC: 4-1
Final: Vs Gateway FA: 6-0
Speaking in a telephone interview, the team’s Head Coach, Atobaje Oladeji Gabriel attributed the team’s success to hard work, team spirit, and the unwavering support of the club president, Prince Olumide Festus Adegboye.
“It was a great outing for the team—players and all the technical crew. We narrowly missed NNL promotion last season, but this victory gives us renewed confidence to consolidate on our performance when we return next year,” the coach said.
Coach Atobaje also highlighted the pivotal role played by Prince Olumide in motivating the team. “The boys were inspired by the kind gesture of our president, who gifted them something tangible to take home for Christmas and New Year. This act of generosity has lifted the team’s morale,” he added.
In addition, the coach expressed gratitude to Mr. Sam Anisulowo, the CEO of the Sam Anisulowo Foundation, who donated 32 pairs of new boots to each of the players and also to the team’s adviser, Mr. Eniola Opeyemi the CEO of SWANS Transport who gifted the team management the sum of hundred thousand naira. “This thoughtful gesture boosted the boys’ spirits and made them feel valued. The players are eager to return stronger and make everyone proud,” Coach Atobaje stated.
Atobaje said the team will resume training in January, aiming to build on this success and achieve promotion to the NNL in the coming season. He said; “with the backing of Prince Olumide and supporters like Mr. Sam Anisulowo, Olukismet FC is poised for a bright future.”
“As the team takes a well-deserved break, we remain committed to being good ambassadors of the club and upholding the legacy of excellence established by our leaders,” Atobaje added..
