Osogbo Township Stadium came alive on December 22, 2024, as Oriade Football Club was officially launched in a grand ceremony attended by notable dignitaries and football enthusiasts. The event marked a significant milestone for the club, founded on February 19, 2022, with a vision to revolutionize grassroots football in Nigeria.
Mr. Olanrewaju Samuel Oluwafikayo, President of Oriade FC, expressed his pride and gratitude during his speech. Reflecting on his 20-year journey that began in Ila Orangun, he shared his passion for football and how it inspired him to establish the club. He emphasized the club’s mission of nurturing talent and its commitment to excellence, resilience, and community development.
“Oriade FC, which means ‘the crown is destined,’ is more than a football club; it is a movement that aims to inspire, unite, and create a legacy for future generations,” Mr. Olanrewaju said.
Furthermore, he mentioned that Oriade Football Club aims to be a force in Nigerian football, inspiring youths and fostering unity through the beautiful game. “With determination and the support of our community, the best is yet to come,” he added.
He also acknowledged the invaluable support of sponsors, coaching staff, players, and fans, emphasizing that the team belongs to its supporters, who are the heartbeat of the club.

The event also featured the appointment of prominent figures as lifetime patrons of the club. Alhaji Olayiwola Olafiranye, a foremost philanthropist, and Miss Balikis Omobukola Yusuf, CEO of Opeke Spices, were named as the club’s life patron and life matron, respectively.
To celebrate the launch, two novelty matches were held. The first match saw Oriade Football Club Youth Team face off against the Oriade Old Players Team, while the second pitted Oriade Football Club against Ajegunle FC. Both matches ended in draws, symbolizing unity and sportsmanship.
The launch was a memorable event, signifying the beginning of a promising journey for Oriade FC and its mission to elevate football in Nigeria and beyond.
