Nigerians Blast Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa Over Statement on Edo Killings
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has come under heavy criticism following his reaction to the killing of Northern hunters who were traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano. The victims were reportedly killed by vigilantes in Uromi, Edo State, and a viral video of the tragic incident has sparked nationwide outrage.
Musa, in a statement posted on his verified X page, expressed deep sorrow over the killings, condemning the act and calling for humanity to prevail. His post read:
“My heart is heavy. 💔💔 How did we get here? How did we lose our sense of humanity? Innocent travelers, simply on their way to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, were hijacked and unalived in Edo State. 😢🔥
This isn’t about tribe, religion, or background—this is about human lives! When did we become so desensitized to pain? Where is our compassion? Where is our sympathy? We cannot allow this kind of evil to become our new normal. Every life matters. 🕊️
May their souls rest in peace. May their families find strength. And may we, as a people, remember that humanity comes first. 💔😭🙏🏽”
However, Musa’s statement did not sit well with many Nigerians, who accused him of selective outrage. They took to his comment section, calling him a hypocrite and questioning his silence on previous killings, particularly those linked to Northern groups.
A user identified as Dr. Francis Nwoke wrote: “You are a hypocrite. Every life matters only when a northerner is involved. This is what you all wanted for long. So let’s have it.”
Another user, @Officialjoel4_, pointed out: “When it was that of Deborah….you kept quiet. Is not about Religion but if it was a Christian that was k!!!!!!!ed you would have kept your useless mouth shut. U de craze.”
Similarly, @retweet_repostz commented: “Ahmed, you for just stfu. You can’t suddenly find ur voice now. You have never condemned what’s been happening since. Which hunters go from state to state with guns? All the security forces in Nigeria have failed. They should be ashamed. May the souls of the dead rest in peace.”
Another critic, Bossman, added: “Ahmed, where were you when the Fulani were killing, kidnapping, and destroying our farms in the south? Musa, where was your erection when Deborah was burnt to death? Where were you and your hypocrites northerners when Fulani killed and destroyed farmland with cows on the southern part?”
The backlash highlights the deep divisions in the country, with many citizens feeling that influential figures only speak up when their own groups are affected. The incident continues to generate heated discussions on social media, with many calling for a more balanced and consistent approach to condemning violence in Nigeria.
