NWFL Two Years Of Retrogressive Tenure Comes to An Abysmal End.

The Chairperson of the apex body that runs women football in Nigeria has officially confirmed the expiration of her two year tenure.
Her tenure, which kickstarted in July 2023 and terminated on the 30th of June 2015, scored high in negatives in her stewardship.

Her scorecard is certainly a period women football lovers would not want to remember

  • A period where governance and compliance were rubbished – when the hunt of venues for Super 6 was borne alone by the COO.

Where marketing and sponsorship drive is being signed off with personal account details.

A period that the Match officials’ Idemnities were being shouldered by the NFF for a body that is supposed to be independent and autonomous – The Nigeria Football Federation in a bid to ensure continuity and not allow the Gusau led Board to be distracted had done the anomaly by paying off match Idemnities and NWFL staff salaries for two years.

*Period where a board member resigned due to the unprofessional manner the board was being run.

A period where stakeholders questioned the rationale of scrapping a vibrant league for non professionals without any clear-cut alternatives.

*A period that football lovers called for the resurrection of the nationwide league, which she scrapped without a clear-cut alternative league.

A period that a state league for women was merely lip service and was only played in states that the Football Association had the structure in place before now.

Sponsorship : The league up until now could not boast of a sponsor not to talk of a title sponsor, the body known for constantly throwing up marketing figures that had no bearing or added value to the NWFL.

  • For the first time in years , the women’s championship was very controversial. Registration of clubs through the back door and limited slots for promotion with almost 20 clubs justling for it.
  • it is on records that it was during her tenure that two clubs out of the blues – Sunshine Queens and Ekiti Queens were promoted into the premiership.

To cap it all : it was a period of moving the league 10 step backwards.
