In a spirited declaration ahead of the Nigerian Women’s Federation Cup quarter-final match, Coach Wole Animashaun of Osun Babes FC has expressed unwavering confidence in his team’s readiness to face Rivers Angels. The match is set to take place on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in Enugu.
Osun Babes FC secured their quarter-final spot by defeating Confluence Queens 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. On the other hand, Rivers Angels advanced by triumphing over Edo Queens with a convincing 4-1 victory.
The upcoming fixture has sparked concerns among Osun Babes fans due to the significant travel distance. Osun Babes, based in Osogbo, face a day-long journey to Enugu, while Rivers Angels, from Port Harcourt, have a much shorter two-hour trip. Fans see this as an unfair advantage favoring Rivers Angels. However, Coach Animashaun has dismissed these concerns, emphasizing his team’s resilience and determination.

“Even if they take us to their backyard, we will go there and play,” said Coach Animashaun in a recent interview. He continued, “A lot of people are saying the proximity of the stadium favors Rivers Angels. Well, for me, I’m not fazed by where we are going to play that match. Even if they take us to their backyard, we will go there and play. I have confidence in my girls; we are ready, and we will go there and put in our best like we’ve always done.”
Reflecting on past victories, Animashaun highlighted the team’s perseverance and faith: “We had nothing when we played Gallant Queens in the round of 32 of the Federation Cup in Kaduna. We went there and defeated them. We’ve also played and triumphed against NWFL side Confluence Queens in the round of 16. People wrote us off, but we conquered them. The girls played really well and exceeded the expectations of many. The hands of God are upon this team, and I believe that we are ready to face Rivers Angels in the quarter-finals, come what may.”
As the Omoluabi Queens gear up for the crucial match, fans and supporters of Osun Babes FC can take heart in their coach’s optimism and the team’s demonstrated ability to overcome challenges. The stage is set for a thrilling encounter in Enugu.
